Southern Highlands Loop

Exploring 100km around Sydney gives us many options for touring the coastal seafront, mountain foothills and river roads. And this 2 day tour sees it all.

Departing Sydney and heading directly into the Royal National Park brings us into one of the best bush rides in the Sydney Basin area. The road has its own eco system and as you come out of the park, the coastal views open up right there before you. Here we will stop for our morning break and watch hang-gliders fill the air, if the wind is right. Travelling further south we’ll pass numerous beaches and local communities along the coast to our lunch break in Kiama, where one the right day you will witness its famous ‘blowhole’ in action.

After lunch we’re off through the Kangaroo Valley on a steep climb up to the Southern Highlands. We’ll stop at the famous Robertson Pie Shop and explore the towns of Moss Vale and Bowral. It’s here in the Southern Highlands where we’ll stay for the night. On a clear and moonless night, discover the ‘Milky Way’ and the star filled skies of this great southern land.

The following morning we’ll traverse the foothills of the Blue Mountains through hobby farms and expensive rural properties. We’ll continue to Wisemans Ferry and the car ferry crossing of the Hawkesbury River. Lunch is in Spencer, at the most ‘down to earth’ café by the side of the river, about 30km from the ferry. After lunch we follow the river using back roads and ‘old highways’ all the way back into Sydney.

A trip to Sydney would not be complete without a ride past some of its best northern beaches and over the Harbour Bridge. You’ll be astounded by the amount we crammed into 2 memorable days... and we were only ever, no more than 120km from the centre of Sydney at all times.
